Study Shows Best Way to Eat And Exercise For Weight Loss
Posted in weightloss on 19. Mar, 2010
There’s so much contraversy about the best way to eat and exercise to lose weight. Truth is I think if you follow some kind of plan you’re probably going to get better results than if you just wing it every time you eat and exercise. But if you’re going to try and lose weight why not go with a tried and tested method?
With that said, take a look at some of the research that could help get you into great shape.
A recent study (1) looked at the effects of different types of exercise and diet and its effects on weight loss.
There were four groups in the study:
Group 1) Conventional low calorie diet with no exercise
Group 2) Convential low calorie diet plus resistance training (lifting weights 3 days per week)
Group 3) Higher protein diet with no exercise
Group 4) Higher protein diet plus resistance training
The diet consisted of 1400 calories per day for the women and 1700 calories per day for the men. The study lasted 16 weeks and the participants were weighed, had their body fat% and waist circumferences measured.
Apparently exercising makes you lose more weight than not exercising :-). But overall the group eating the higher protein diet and lifting weights lost the most weight, dropped the most fat and tightened up their waistlines.
Between the exercising groups the high protein diet participants lost 3.3kg more than the conventional high carb approach. (13.8kg average loss in the high protein group versus 10.5kg average loss in the conventional higher carb diet group).
Where’s The Beef?
Moral of the story? If you want to lose weight try eating eating less carbs, more protein and do resistance training three days per week. By more protein I’d recommend you shoot for 40% of your daily diet to come from protein. In practical terms, just eat some protein at every meal!

They could be sweetening it with artificial sweetener or sugar alcohols which don’t count as carbs. I don’t think they would make too many that don’t have some kind of sweetener, because otherwise, it would be terribly bland and people wouldn’t like it as much.
