Don’t Get Stuck In A Rut Like This Guy
Posted in weightloss on 17. Mar, 2010
I used to see this guy, probably late thirties, on my way into work pretty much every morning. 08:00 on the dot, I could’ve set my watch by him! He’d be by the same lamp post at the same time every single day. Initially Mr late thirties probably lost a few pounds. Maybe because he went from doing nothing at all to doing this run five days per week. But it didn’t last…
Your Body Gets Used to Whatever You Do
Over time his body would’ve got used to the exercise, so that initial weight loss would have hit a plateau. As far as his body was concerned he didn’t need to be any fitter than he already was to do that same run. He didn’t need to lose any more weight to be fit enough to do it.
If Mr. late thirties was to run a little bit faster, maybe take a different route, maybe go up some hills, maybe a few sprints interspersed with walks, then he’d be giving his body something else to adapt to. The body is only as slim and firm as it needs to be. The more reasons we give it to be fitter and more toned then the more likely it’ll be in good shape. So, we really need to give the body a reason to change.
Give Your Body A Reason to Change
Have a think about what you’re currently doing. Whatever you did yesterday is what got your body in the shape it’s in today. If you want to progress you need to give the body a reason to change. And that means doing a little bit more. Not necessarily longer, but try making what you’re doing more challenging.
If yesterday you ran for 30 minutes at 6.5kph tomorrow try 30 minutes at 6.8kph. If you did 10 push ups try 11. If you help the Plank for 30 seconds try for 35 seconds.
As I always say; you don’t have to go crazy, just a little crazier than you did last time.
