4 Ways to Stop Eating too Much

After too many months of my food bill weighing in at over £450 I decided it was time to moderate. Food’s probably the one thing I don’t watch my spending on. I’ve convinced myself I’m investing in myself. Don’t get me wrong, I still believe that’s true. I just think I can invest a little less and still be fit and healthy…

How does this help you? Well a quick and easy way to start losing weight is by eating a little less at meal times. So, without further adieu, here are my four ways to combat over-eating. Whether you’re trying to save money or trying to… well, weigh less.

1) Have a glass of water before your meal

Couple of benefits of this. First, it’ll help you digest your meal better, and therefore get more of the nutrients out of your food. When you’re well nourished from the food you eat your body stops looking for more. It basically stops you feeling hungry.

2) Include protein

Protein makes you feel full. Ever tried overeating eggs? Hard to do. Protein will also help keep you fuller for longer too.

Another benefit of protein is that it makes your body produce the hormone glucagon. This signals your fat stores to release fat to be burned as fuel. Sweet.

3) Chew your food

I’m often guilty of inhaling my food as I rush to get through my meal. I started slowing down, chewing each mouthful and basically being present. I found I actually enjoyed eating alot more. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy eating before. I just didn’t acknowledge the process. One minute there was a meal, next minute it had gone.

It took me longer to eat my meals, so perhaps my brain had a chance to register I’d eaten. I stopped needing that lil’ something extra I’d usually have after a meal.

4) Wait 20 minutes after

Waiting for the 20 minute watershed after a meal gave the food a chance to hit my stomach. This way I’d know if I was just eating out of habit, or whether I was still genuinely hungry.

Wrap Up

So there you have it. Drink a bit of water before, include some protein, chew your food and wait for 20 minutes after to avoid eating more than you need. But don’t take my word for it. I want you to try it. Your next meal’s as good a place to start as any ;)
